Tuesday, June 12 - Summer Youth Concert Kickoff - FREE EVENT!!!

Summer Youth Concert Kickoff

FREE EVENT!!!

We hope you will join us on TUESDAY, JUNE 12
to kick off another year of Summer Youth Concerts in Glen Carbon’s Miner Park (MAY 16 UPDATE: The June 12 concert will take place at ANNIE'S Frozen Custard:):

Last year's shows started at about 6pm.  We will post an updated schedule as soon as we have it.

Jim Galbierz of Swing City Music is the driving force behind the concert series. Jim teaches guitar lessons at Swing City Music in Edwardsville. For the past few years, he has put together many performances by local youth bands. This season you can expect a wide variety of music from Indy to pop, acoustic and rock & roll.

We expect to see some of the following bands this summer (Each band has a link):
Equal Squeeze
The Mellow D’s
Exit 12
C’est La Vie
Love Me, Leave Me
Last in Line
Victory Friday
Lindsey & Alex

The concert series gives these young musicians an opportunity to perform in front of a live audience, with professional sound equipment and stage lights. They learn so much about performing. They can work on improving their stage presence, and getting over stage-fright. They learn the technical aspects of working on a live performance and the importance of teamwork. Sometimes the bands have used this venue to help raise money for a good cause, like last year’s Joplin tornado victims. The bands are very supportive of each other. It’s a great atmosphere for young musicians and people of all ages who love music.

Are you thinking of hiring a band for a birthday party or some other event? Come on out and listen to these groups! We think you’ll be quite impressed. Many of the bands are available to play private events.

The Edwardsville / Glen Carbon area has a strong young musician scene. They work really hard, putting in countless hours of lessons and practice to produce a great show. We hope you’ll grab some friends and come out to join the fun. The MINER PARK concerts are free to the public. (MAY 16 UPDATE: The June 12 concert will take place at ANNIE'S Frozen Custard: FREE CONCERT!!! )Just a fantastic family event! Some things you might want to bring: lawn chairs or a quilt, bug spray, a picnic dinner. (Food and drink are also available for purchase at the event.)

The Concert Series is looking for sponsors. For just $75 you can help sponsor events for the 2012 Summer Season. Your support helps with the necessary costs of putting on these concerts (promotions, rentals, etc.) You’re also helping bring entertainment to the community, and giving young musicians an opportunity to spread their wings. As a sponsor, your logo or company name will appear in the posters & fliers, and you will be mentioned at the event.

We will also post other upcoming concerts that include young musicians.   Check back with us for postings about concerts at the Wildey this summer! (NOTE: The Miner Park & Annie's concerts are FREE, the Wildey concerts will have tickets for sale at the box office. We will post information about each conert, as it becomes available. )

Check back with us for updates on band lineups and future events! Thanks for helping us get the word out about these family friendly shows!
